Christie’s Preps for a Special Auction, the Rug Company Gets a New Chairman, and More News

Legendary Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill died today, January 14, according to a statement from his firm, Taler de Arquitectora (RBTA). Born in 1939, Bofill was one of the world’s most famous contemporary architects, completing more than 1,000 projects in his lifetime. He is best known for his ambitious work in multi-family housing, including La Muralla Roja in Alicante, and Walden 7 in Sant Just Desvern – both in Spain – a city that has also been home to La Fábrica, RBTA headquarters, and Bofill’s home, since 1975, he said. Bofill in the July 1987 issue of Architectural Digest. “It is directly related to the human desire to survive and leave a legacy. If I can make it happen, I have not worked in vain.”

Alexis Bittar Gets a Luxurious New SoHo Storefront

Last year, Alexis Bittar reinvented his jewelry company as a comprehensive lifestyle brand, bringing home décor, accessories, and a wide range of products into the mix. Its new location on Prince Street will display all the new goods in an elegantly designed showroom alongside the company’s jewellery. “I was fascinated by creating an immersive experience that blends different sensory elements,” Bittar told AD PRO of his inspiration. “[From my experience of] A public school in the 1970s in Brooklyn, I had the idea for an abandoned institution. Wayfair invites design submissions for its 7th Annual Tastemaker Awards

On January 11th, online home furnishing giant Wayfair announced the return of the 7th annual Tastemaker Awards. Hosted by Wayfair Professional – a membership program offering a range of tools and services – the 2022 Awards will select winners for: Most Dramatic Renovation, Best Residential Design, Best Bathroom Design, Most Effective Use of Color, Best Exterior Design, and Best Business Design. Finalists will be chosen from a jury, including AD PRO Editor Lila Allen, along with AD100 Designer Joe Hacken and Hadley Keeler, Digital Director of Beautiful house. Entry is for Wayfair Professionals members only. The application process requires that members upload their designs to Instagram using #WFPTastemakers and #WayfairProStyle hashtags, and tag and follow @wayfairprofessional before February 1. The winner will receive $1000 for shopping at Wayfair.com, along with design promotions on the company’s social media channels.
