Hilton (NYSE: HLT) today announced the opening of The Emerald House Lisbon, Curio Collection by Hilton in the Portuguese capital. The 67-room property is nestled among historic mansions and charming churches, with rooms offering stunning views of the Tagus River and the city itself, perched across the seven hills that make up Lisbon.

The hotel is named after the street on which it is located, Rua das Janelas Verdes, which translates to “street of green windows”. Housed in a restored building in a prime location, steeped in history and favored by 18th century nobility, accents of the property’s cultural heritage echo throughout the interiors. The ground floor, which was formerly a bakery, serves a variety of delicious breads and pastries. Many of the items that belonged to the building’s previous residents, such as the antique bathtub, tiles, and sink, have been kept and used as unique pieces of the hotel’s décor. Art and antiques from the local area underpin the modern and elegant décor, creating a distinctive ambiance perfect for those looking to discover authentic Lisbon.

When not exploring the best of the city, guests can sip on contemporary Portuguese drinks and dishes at the hotel’s restaurant, La Mesa, or relax with a crisp glass of Vinho Verde at Five O’Clock Bar. There is also a state-of-the-art 24-hour fitness center for those who want to stay active.

Emerald House Lisbon is within walking distance of the National Museum of Ancient Art, where guests can learn about the cultural history that surrounds them. A short stroll will lead to the upscale neighborhoods of Chiado and Baixa where travelers can admire gorgeous mansions, browse independent boutiques, and explore the vibrant restaurant scene. For those seeking to get digested, the famous Cais Do Sodre – known as “Pink Street” – due to the unusual and charming color of its sidewalk – is within walking distance of the hotel.
